You’ll learn what decodables are, how to use them effectively, and how they fit into the broader literacy framework to support struggling readers.
Barbara Sheaffer Director of Administrator Relations
Barbara Sheaffer serves as the Director of Administrator Relations at Wilson Language Training®. She supports school leaders in their implementation of all Wilson programs. Barbara assists districts in the development of comprehensive literacy plans, provides school leader coaching and facilitates school leader learning and collaboration through the WIN Prin courses focusing on implementation science and Structured Literacy.
Previously she worked in public education for 30 years as a teacher and then as a director of special education. She has taught and supported the use of Fundations®, Just Words® and the Wilson Reading System®.
She has been contributing to the Wilson mission since 2002 when she became a Wilson® Credentialed Trainer. She continued her contributions to Wilson by joining WLT as an On-Call Trainer in 2010 and in 2022 as a Literacy Advisor.
Barbara has a B.S.in Special Education and a M.S. in Early Childhood Education. She holds certificates as a Reading Specialist and Administrative I – Principal K-12.
Heather Caciola, M.Ed., W.D.T., W.C.T., is a Wilson Literacy Advisor/Literacy Specialist with over 25 years of experience in education, focusing primarily on literacy. Heather is a certified Fundations® K-3 Presenter, Wilson Dyslexia Therapist, and Wilson® Credentialed Trainer. She also holds multiple teaching certificates, including those in Reading, Early Childhood, and Structured English Immersion. Before joining Wilson, Heather served as Director of Learning and Student Support at an independent day school in Arizona. There she spearheaded a school-wide initiative to develop a student support department for students with mild to moderate learning disabilities and an MTSS model utilizing all Wilson programs across all three tiers.
Throughout her career, Heather has held various roles including Reading Specialist, Literacy Coach, Learning Specialist, Language Arts Coordinator, and most notably, classroom teacher. Currently, Heather is the President of the International Dyslexia Association’s Arizona Branch. Heather believes that learning to read is a fundamental human right; and to move the needle and improve literacy outcomes, teachers need support and effective tools and skills to teach students not only to learn to read but to read to learn. Most importantly, Heather believes that school and district leaders are the key to teacher and student success in improving literacy outcomes. It is Heather’s life’s mission to work collaboratively with educational leaders and key stakeholders across the United States to ensure ALL students learn to read.
